Hurricane Firetower

Join us when we climb a hidden treasure in the Adirondack Mountains. Hurricane Mountain offers one of the most commanding views of any of the lesser peaks, and because of this you can experience 360 degree views with little effort.  Built in 1919, the firetower is one of several constructed by the fire service to help look out for forest fires. The towers communicated with each other, and fire departments, via hand cranked phones and were staffed by ‘observers’ who usually lived in cabins near the mountain. The tower is slated for reconstruction and is currently not safe to climb. Fortunately, the tower is not required for you to enjoy the panoramic landscape from the summit.  This will be a fun and easy day that will bring satisfaction for the experienced hiker and the beginner.
